What you just read above is what I heard my dad say over and over again while I was growing up, and as an adult. This is how he approached his professional life, the work he did on people’s cars in our driveway, mission projects for church, and any projects for the family at home. He believed in giving it the full effort the first time, so it would get done right and completely. If the end result wasn’t what was expected by the customer or his own expectations, then he went back to figuring out the real problem to get the real solution. On the surface, these are quotes by my dad. In depth of meaning, these have become guiding principles in many aspects of my life. 

 

As I watched my dad, and helped my dad with repairs’n’fixes on the car, the house, our yard, and the various other tasks he took on for people, I learned how to use the tools, assess the situation, trace the design of the object to its beginning, and think through the problem (the symptom) back to its origin of issue. When you knew how the object worked, found the original source of the issue(s), and applied proper use of tools/ideas, it got the job done right. 

 

These trade skills and life skills have followed me from junior high to now reflecting in my work ethic today. In jr high and high school, they served me well in missions work and in making money so I could buy the things I wanted. In college, these skills gave me the chance to help college classmates, serve my little local church I was on staff at, and to make some extra money to pay bills. As an adult, I continued to grow these skills and gain experience from general construction to small machines to working as the service technician for a regional company. 

 

Today, Prevent Pro exists because of good things and good people from my past, and due to good things and good people in my present. My dad and other employers taking the time to teach me solid principles and skills have led to a time now that my wife (who is also my business partner) and our kids have food on the table and a roof over our heads.
